Olly Winder (b. 2002) is an artist based in London. His work focuses on the impact of social and cultural internet phenomena on contemporary life, deriving from his fascination towards the bizarre effects the internet has on people.
Influenced by post ironic humour, shitposting, low-quality images and invasive media such as clickbait advertisements, his work uses a mix of seemingly contextless and surreal content scraped from certain obscure corners of the internet such as, old 4chan threads, bizarre religious AI generated facebook groups, clickbait Instagram reels and reductive stolen stock images.
This content is used in computer-based performances, paintings and digital mixed-media sculptures in order to explore our relationship with the internet due to its increasing commercialism, along with the rise of generative content.
