Olly Winder (b.2002) is a London based British artist who works across new media, painting and installation. Looking at the relationship between violence, masculinity, perfection and attraction, his work often emerges from alienated online communities where systems of desire, control and power are warped. Based on the internet’s influence over the body, the impact of consumer culture and the volatility of contemporary male identity, he often focuses on a dependence on reducing complex human emotions and behaviours into militarised, apathetic or neurochemical and pharmaceutical processes. With this, he creates new narratives that re-contextualise and merge relevant substances, symbols, objects, images and footage, ranging from violent romantic-era paintings and hunting paraphernalia to YouTube videos of bodybuilding influencers and superficial expressions of attraction.
